The Bond Museum in Keswick, Lake District

Thunderball

The fully-faired gold BSA Lightning fitted with twin rocket launchers.

BSA Motorcycle

The museum also has the original and only rocket firing BSA Lightning motorcycle from the film Thunderball on display.

This BSA was ridden by Fiona Volpe, the flame haired SPECTRE agent, who kills her associate Count Lippe after he fails to murder Bond during their successful mission to steal the atomic bombs from a hijacked Vulcan bomber.

Sean Connery models the jetpack Bond
uses in Thunderball.

Jetpack

Also on display from Thunderball is the Jetpack used during the pre-credit sequence to escape from the French chateau after attending the funeral of Colonel Jacques Bouvar, a SPECTRE operative and Bond has to make a very speedy exit from the roof.

James Bond in flight

The Bell Rocket Belt used was not a special effect and worked for real in the film. It was developed by Bell Aircraft Corporation and could fly - but only for about 20 seconds before using up all its hydrogen peroxide fuel in the tank.

The jetpack in our museum was assembled for the major Paris Bond exhibition and using some of the original bits from the late Bert Luxford.

Starring Sean Connery, Claudine Auger, Adolfo Celi, Luciana Paluzzi, Rik Van Nutter, Desmond Llewelyn, Bernard Lee.
